Should We Tolerate Error?

Revelation 2:20
20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.

The Christians at Pergamum are criticized for 'tolerating' false teaching which lead to sexual immorality. So, there are some things we are not to tolerate (as any parent knows!).

Yet, in the church and in society tolerance is now the king of virtues.

From Scott Clark's blog: (He is professor at Westminster Seminary in California.)

"Read the history of the PCUSA in the early 20th century. The greatest threat to orthodoxy in the PCUSA (Presbyterian Church in the USA) in the early 20th century was not the liberals. They were identifiably wrong. The greatest threat was those who refused to see the liberals and their theology for what they were, another religion. Those who tolerate error do as much damage as the proponents of error because in the same way indulgent parents are as blameworthy as naughty children."
