Random reflections on theology, politics, sports and TEC (The Episcopal Church). So what does Gig-em mean? "At a yell practice before the 1930 TCU game, A&M board of regent Pinky Downs '06 shouted, 'What are we going to do to those Horned Frogs?' His muse did not fail him as he improvised, borrowing a term from frog hunting. "Gig 'em, Aggies!" he said as he made a fist with his thumb extended straight up. I just finished "Pillars of Flame: Power, Priesthood, and Spiritual Maturity" by Maggie Ross, and she makes much the same point. The book is an explication of the idea of kenosis as found in Phil 2:5-10, here directly applied to the Cross:
"... Quite contrary to this notion of the implacable judge, God reveals in the humility of Christ that judgment is given from the perspective of the Cross ... to enter into compassion with such intensity conveys to the world something of the vastness of God's prodigal gift of divine life, love, and humble mercy ..."
